New Year, New Opportunities and a Bittersweet Goodbye

New years seem perfect for transitions, endings and beginnings. And so it is for Trash Free Maryland. We close out a year in which we were all challenged, with many new supporters, a new collaborative to create a single voice, Less Litter Maryland, to harness the power of groups across the State working to reduce trash, and the reward of knowing this is a problem that can, and will be, resolved! We could not have done any of this without your support and for that, we are so very grateful.

We are also grateful for the leadership of our Executive Director, Shane Robinson, over the past two years. Shane joined Trash Free Maryland at the end of 2019 and has tackled every challenge thrown his way, and there have been many, with both a "can do" attitude and considered analysis. Shane is a thought leader and so we were heartened to learn Shane contemplated his own future career path and landed on a new endeavor related to mathematics. We will certainly miss Shane but know classrooms will be getting an incredibly well rounded Professor who is thoughtful, policy savvy and a Trash Free Maryland advocate!

“Being part of Trash Free Maryland was the highlight of my nonprofit and advocacy career. Its mission to reduce trash pollution is not only clearcut, but vitally important to human health and the environment. I will deeply miss my daily work with Trash Free Maryland, but I look forward to continuing to support the organization in other capacities as I turn this page.” – Shane Robinson

On behalf of our Board of Directors, I will serve as the acting Executive Director and Trash Free Maryland is launching its search for a new, permanent Executive Director. Please help us spread the word about this new opportunity to support Maryland's communities far and wide. The job announcement is here and inquiries can be sent to hiring@trashfreemaryland.org. We will be consulting with our many partners and developing principles to shape our search. As we all know, there is much work to do. Should you have ideas you would like to share, please let us know. I can be reached at shari@trashfreemaryland.org.

In the meantime, we wish you all the best as you transition into the New Year!
